In a thyroid ultrasound, a small device is placed over the thyroid gland and a 2dimensional image of the gland is then seen onto the computer screen. Some of the main reasons why a thyroid ultrasound may be prescribed are, a growth or a thyroid nodule, an irregular shaped thyroid gland which maybe due to goiter, or presence of swollen or abnormal lymphs near the thyroid. Sometimes in case of an abnormality detected, a biopsy maybe performed along with the ultrasound to test the tissue or material inside the node.
Scrotum scan is done by placing the handheld ultrasound device on the testicles. This is usually done to determine if the lump or heavy mass in the testicles is cystic, solid or other way. Or incase of a trauma to the scrotal area, the swelling is evaluated.
