Neonatal Brain / Pediatric Abdomen

Neonatal brain ultrasound is about taking images of the coronal and longitudinal parts of the brain of an infant using sound waves. It involves using a transducer to take the images.

Procedure

  • To start with the procedure the infant is positioned correctly on the exam table.
  • The water-based gel is applied on the anterior fontanel and the transducer is placed on the infant’s head to transmit the waves.
  • The images are taken for further examination.

Benefits

  • This procedure is beneficial as it does not involve giving sedation.
  • It is easily accessible and can be used in the neonatal intensive care unit.
  • It does not use harmful ionizing radiations.
  • It is also helpful in detecting blow flow to the brain.

Paediatric Abdominal ultrasound is an imaging process that uses sound waves to detect the causes of abdominal and scrotal pain in children.

Procedure

  • A transducer is used to send the sound waves by pressing against the skin.
  • As the sound waves travel through the skin, images recording the tiny changes can be generated by the radiologist.

Benefits

  • This ultrasound procedure is conducted to evaluate the appearance of the appendix, liver, gallbladder, spleen, and other parts of the body.
  • It helps determine the cause of the abdominal pain in children.
  • It is also helpful in detecting the location of the abdominal fluid present in the abdomen and examining the cause of the vomiting in infants.
