The dating and viability scan is an ultrasound examination that is performed between 6-10 weeks of pregnancy. Women who suffer pain or bleeding during the first trimester of pregnancy and/or have a history of miscarriages/ectopic pregnancies can benefit from this scan.

What is the purpose of this scan?

This scan is done in order to determine some conditions during pregnancy. We at Radon Imaging & Diagnostics offer this service to pregnant women with the help of expert sonographers. The intention for doing the scan is as follows:

  • To confirm the viability of the pregnancy.
  • Find out the gestational age of the pregnancy.
  • Finding out the count of embryos.
  • To check the whether the pregnancy is normally growing inside the uterus.
  • To track the position of the pregnancy.

What are the results of this scan?

The scan done in different weeks of pregnancy show different results:

  • Embryo and the fetal heartbeat should be seen at 6 weeks if the dates are certain.
  • Presence of fetal heart action at 7 weeks.
  • If the scan is done in the 8th week then the fetal form is clear.

If the scan is performed at a very early stage, then the doctors may prescribe for another scan after 10-15 days to confirm the pregnancy.
