A pelvic scan helps view the structures and organs of the pelvic region. Usually done in females, it helps get a complete picture of the vagina, uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes as well as the ovaries. Pelvic ultrasound can be performed in two ways:

  • Transabdominal: Here the ultrasound transducer is placed on the abdomen and scan is performed.
  • Transvaginal: In this process, a thin and long transducer covered in conductive gel is inserted into the vagina to get a complete scan of the pelvic region.

Depending on the reason for the scan, the method of scan is selected so as to get the best outcome or result from it.
