This doppler scan of the uterine artery helps to determine if the supply of blood is as expected to the uterus and within its arteries. The main goal of this scan is to understand if the blood supply to the baby is sufficient to help it grow to its complete potential or if there are any chances of low blood supply. Another major factor for this scan is to know if there are any chances of pre-eclampsia, a high blood pressure condition during the pregnancy which can cause pre mature births.
The uterine artery doppler is generally ordered during the 16 to 22 weeks of gestation. It is done transabdominally.
